Teaching Jobs - How To Land The Best Position.

Yes teaching jobs are a dime a dozen overseas. But they are not all created equal! There are many things that you can do to ensure that the job you end up getting, is really the one you want!

As mentioned in an earlier post, Teaching ESL - 6 Tips to Ensure You Get The Position You Are Looking For, once you start sending out your resume to some of the MANY teaching jobs out there, you will be inundated with requests for you to accept their offers. It is up to you to sift through the gravel to find the diamond in the rough!

How do you do this? Well, the first suggestion I have for you is to not be too quick in accepting their proposal. It might not be the best you can do. Also, there might be a better offer from another institution.

I personally searched and applied to DOZENS of schools and universities over the period of 1 or 2 months before I settled on the one I ended up at. And that worked in my favor. The institution was great!

The BEST scenario though, if you are able, is to actually GO to the country you are interested in teaching in and arrange interviews. That way you get to see the facility and accommodations, and ask questions personally.  Some countries such as Thailand, REQUIRE a personal interview, so the chances of you landing a position at ANY institution there are pretty slim if you cannot make the personal interview.

There are literally THOUSANDS of teaching jobs around the world, BE SELECTIVE! And when you have found one school you are interested in, and the contract is just a little shy on their offer, ask for it.

If the pay is a little low, ask for a higher amount.

If you would like something included in your contract like maybe meals, ask for it.

Remember, if you are planning on teaching in Asia, they love to barter. So get some practice and barter about your pay. You may be surprised.
