There are also 7 crucial questions to ask the institution that is considering you (or that YOU are considering) before or after you have made contact with them.

1. Does the institution cover your flight or reimburse your flight costs before or after your contract is finished?

ESL teaching jobs are a dime a dozen but there are 3 very important questions you should be asking yourself before and while you are performing your search for the perfect ESL job.  What you will learn here are those exact questions. 1.    Is the position in the country you would like to visit?

If you are interested in China, be sure to just check out the ESL teaching jobs in China. Checking out other positions in other countries will only confuse you.

This is a system of keeping track and rewarding students. Sometimes students think of learning English as a joke, no matter how much the parents are paying for the lessons. So this system has been implemented in ALL my classes to try to get their attention and keep it for the 30 minutes to an hour of the class time.

The Basic Concept:

I made up a board using everyday construction paper. On the board was the name of each student on the left of the board. I then drew lines across the paper so each student had their own row.

This is one of my all time favorites. It lends itself easily to the TPR method of teaching ESL and to ANY age group. Can also be played with as few as 2 or 3 people but is a lot more fun with a full class room.

This game can be used as a form of reinforcing vocabulary, phrase(s), or any other lesson just taught.

For ease of explaining, lets say that you are teaching a grade one class. You are teaching the words “elephant, tiger, monkey, snake and zebra” using picture cards.

Yes teaching jobs are a dime a dozen overseas. But they are not all created equal! There are many things that you can do to ensure that the job you end up getting, is really the one you want!

As mentioned in an earlier post, Teaching ESL - 6 Tips to Ensure You Get The Position You Are Looking For, once you start sending out your resume to some of the MANY teaching jobs out there, you will be inundated with requests for you to accept their offers. It is up to you to sift through the gravel to find the diamond in the rough!

In today’s day and age, it is becoming a prerequisite for success to be able to speak good conversational English. It has become the worlds most widely-used language used for business. Because of this, there are MANY countries in search of those who are qualified and can effectively teach English as a second language.

Experiencing life in another country, learning their culture by full immersing yourself in it, is only broadened when you can support your adventure by landing a short term (6 months to a year) position as an ESL Teacher in the country you would most like to see.

What do you pack? What can you leave behind? Well, it all depends on what country you are planning on teaching in. I personally have extensive knowledge about only 2 of the countries which make up Asia. Thailand and China. But I am sure that these 2 countries set the example for most countries in Asia that are taking in English Teachers. And believe me, these 2 countries are extremely different in EVERYTHING about them.

Teaching English abroad has much more in the way of rewards than it does as a form of work. I NEVER thought of my experiences teaching English aboard as work. More so, I thought of it as a way to get to know a country and its people.

I took every opportunity to join my teachers aids to explore places I had never been and many other things.
